MODERN SLAVERY & HUMAN TRAFFICKING STATEMENT

Statement Legalities

Under Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, all UK companies with a turnover above £36 million must publish a Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement, signed by a director and published on the company’s website for open scrutiny. Whilst the company is currently below the threshold required to publish such a statement, the company aims to grow towards this level in the coming years and thus will review and publish such statements annually.

Organisation Structure

BW Industries Ltd was incorporated in 1974 and operates from one site at the Carnaby Industrial Estate in East Yorkshire, where the company’s 150 employees are based. The company offers a drawing and design service to customers, which supports manufacturing processes including cutting, punching, pressing, rolling, welding and fabricating of light gauge steel. This allows us to utilise our complete product range, such as purlins, cleats, frames, flashings, modules and ancillaries, to provide the best bespoke engineered solutions to our customers across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Our Commitment

BW Industries is committed to providing safe workplaces that are free from Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking across all aspects of our business. Our Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Policy sets out the company’s zero tolerance approach on the matter and the actions we will take to uphold this within both our company and our supply chain. This statement highlights the key points of our policy.

Employees

All new employees at BW Industries will be subject to a right to work check to check their eligibility to work in the UK prior to employment. New employees will be presented with copies of our policies and alerted to key issues during their induction.

Training

We will make all our employees aware of our Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Policy. Employees in roles with increased relevance to this statement (Human Resources, Purchasing, Management etc.) will be given further training to assist with identifying and understanding potential risk areas within both our business and with suppliers.

Suppliers

We work with around 200 suppliers annually (all based within the UK), who provide us with a wide range of goods and services. We communicate our stance on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking to all our suppliers and they must agree in writing with our position before receiving contracts. BW Industries will also endeavor to audit as many suppliers as possible on their compliance with the Act (with an emphasis on key and at risk suppliers). Any supplier who is found to be failing in their commitments or breaching the Modern Slavery Act will face having any contracts terminated with immediate effect.

Whistleblowing

BW Industries have a Whistleblowing Policy should any occurrences take place that are likely to have breached the Modern Slavery Act 2015. All employees and suppliers will be encouraged to report any suspected cases of wrongdoing either by our employees or supply chain, to a company Director as soon as they become aware of such a case.

Brexit

The United Kingdom will formally left the European Union on 31/12/2020 and entered into a transitional arrangement. Any changes to UK legislation on this matter will be incorporated into future statements and the company will fully comply with all current and relevant UK legislation going forwards.
